Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has enhanced its API by introducing image generation capability. It currently offers one model, “grok-2-image-1212,” which has the ability to generate up to 10 JPG images per request, and a maximum of 5 requests per second. The service charges $0.07 per image.
In market competition, xAI’s price is a bit higher than Black Forest Labs’ rate of $0.05 per image, and nearly Ideogram’s higher rate of $0.08 per image. xAI’s API currently does not support any image quality, size, and style specification features, and submissions can be altered by a “chat model.”
Having launched in October of the year 2024, xAI is now set to pursue new avenues of revenue streams that might further boost its financials while also working concurrently on the development of its top-of-the-line models, which include notably Grok 3. Besides this, the firm is seriously involved in ongoing discussions with prospective investors in a bid to raise a massive funding round of $10 billion, a capital injection that could powerfully push its valuation to a whopping $75 billion. Moreover, in line with its larger and more ambitious objectives, xAI has taken the huge step of acquiring a generative AI video startup, and it is also working on increasing its data center in Memphis in order to better facilitate its model training and operations.
